Presidents message to our past executive

3 weeks ago By stacey gallagher

A farewell and thank you to the leaving executive members of 2017.

First and foremost I’d like to thank the previous executive team for making 2017 a successful year on and off the pitch. The support that they provided towards rep players who were representing the Druids provincially and nationally, may go unnoticed by most, but they did what a club did and supported their own.

Lindsay Ryall brought a much needed business approach to the position over the last year, helping to keep the clubs financials and best interest in the prospective of all when decisions were made. Thank you Lindsay for your efforts and allowing me to learn from you over the previous year.

Jody Penner took on the immense role of over seeing the facilities and concession. This role is not a easy task by any means. He prevailed through tough circumstances and helped see the club rentals increased and by some, the biggest victory of all, cider on tap. It can be a thankless job, however I thank you in succeeding your goal as “the clubhouse is still standing”.

Derek Laberda over saw the fields, in which was probably the most adverse time we faced with the pitches. From weather conditions to the pipelines, the effort made with his support team (Larry Wall and Hans-Peter) saw that we were still able to host a successful high school provincial tournament and keep all home games on our pitches. Thank you for your efforts over the last year.

Colin Sheridan, the renaissance man. Not only did he take coaching on with Pete, but he over saw the social side of the club. From the first Roger Cowper Flag Tournament to setting up and managing one of the most successful kit-shops the club has seen in recent years. Your efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed.

Sherry Reid. Druid Woman of the year says it all. To be in good standing with our society status returned, as a club we could not be more grateful the hard work you have put into getting this club back to where we are today. No matter the thank you’s, it will never truly show our gratitude to your service.

In final words, it was a pleasure and a privilege to work along side with you on a year to remember. As always I look forward to seeing you around the club in the year to come.

With gratitude,

Shawn Thomas
President Druids RFC
