DRUIDS MINI RUGBY PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Our Objective is to create a fun & safe environment in which Boys and Girls learn the basic and fundamental skills of rugby in preparation for high school rugby.
Druids Mini-Rugby Goal: To offer the opportunity to play a fast-flowing and exciting brand of rugby in a fun and safe environment. Druids brand of mini-rugby combines the skill and flair of the universally acclaimed seven-a-side rugby model for the older mini age levels with the innovative, safe, non-contact Flag Rugby model for the younger mini age levels. Druids Mini Rugby provides your child the platform to maximize their potential as a rugby player whilst enhancing their overall athletic development to benefit all their other sports.

Player Equipment Requirements

Each player will need to purchase a pair of club shorts, socks from the club store.

Each player in grades Under 5’s – Under 9’s will need to purchase a red shirt from the club store.

For all contact teams Under 11’s – Under 19’s, Druids Rugby provide each team with a set of game day jerseys that are returned to the club.

Mouth guards are recommended, not required for Non-contact rugby (under 5 to

Under 9), but Under 11 to Under 19 are required to have mouth guards during practices and games – no mouth guard no play.

Please ensure players have cleated footwear for grass fields (soccer cleats are good).

Flag Rugby FAQ
What is Flag Rugby?
Flag rugby is a modified non-contact team game in which each player wears a belt that has two velcro tags or flags attached to it. Play is similar to rugby league where players attempt to retain possession of the rugby ball by running, dodging, and passing the ball up the field in an attempt to score or get "a try". The defenders meanwhile attempt to prevent the opposition from scoring by "tagging" or pulling off the velcor flag from the ball carrier's belt. Do I need any special equipment?
No special equipment is needed. Typical rubber soccer cleats are recommended but running shoes are fine too. Players need to purchase a red shirt from the club store to wear during games. The flag belts and rugby balls are supplied by the Strathcona Druids Rugby Club.
When are the games?
Rugby is played in a Festival format with other teams from May through to July. Festivals are held on Saturday mornings and typically run from 8:30am to 12pm. Festivals are never organized on long weekends. The festivals are for our under 5 to under 11 age grades and our under 13 to under 19 play league games during the week nights at various locations in the city.
It says Co-ed, do boys and girls play together?
Yes, Flag Rugby is co-ed and players are organized according to age. There is no tackling in Flag Rugby as the object of the game is to remove the ball carrier's flag.
What happens if we miss a week?
We understand that summer is a busy time for families, if you are unable to attend a practice or a festival please let your coach know as soon as you are aware of the conflict.
How do I register?
Registration is administered by Alberta Rugby Union via a third-party company called Sport Lomo. The link and instructions for registration can be found by clicking the registration link above.
Can I get a Refund?

Refunds are NOT issued if a player has participated in activities on the field, practices/training, exhibition games or league games.

Rugby Canada and Rugby Alberta insurance fees are non-refundable under any circumstance.

Club portion of fees may be refunded on a prorated basis up to June 30. Subject to approval by junior committee.
