Judy Seddon "Our Rugby Mom"

This week we lost an outstanding member of the rugby community, Judy Seddon, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer and, for those who knew Judy, fought is probably an understatement.

How many of us can honestly say we have never crossed swords with Judy at some time or another, and probably lost, all for the good of the sport we love? She had a knack of keeping us all in line and never hesitated to provide advice and/or assistance.

While much of Judy’s volunteer time was spent working tirelessly with the Edmonton Rugby Union, she was also an intricate part of the Druids having served on the Executive in the past and, more recently, attending club events with Gerald. Judy could always be found somewhere in the endzone, with Maisie not far away, enjoying a scotch and socializing with players, their families and friends.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Gerald, Luke, Karla and Nigel, Isla and Nora. We will always be here for you.

Rest in peace Judy, we will miss you.

DONATE TO THE JUDY SEDDON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

An endowment fund has been set up to honour Judy’s legacy that will provide a yearly scholarship to a young female rugby athlete, coach, referee or volunteer in Alberta (separate from the AJRA scholarship). Our “rugby mom” has left a lasting impression on all of us – help us keep her legacy vibrant and consider contributing any amount to the Canadian Rugby Foundation Scholarship in her name. Donations of $1,000 or more in the month of March will be recognized on the Canadian Rugby Foundation Website starting in April.
