We are pleased to be able to share with you our plan for a phased return to full contact rugby. It’s wonderful to see light at the end of the tunnel and we are as delighted as our players that they will soon be able to resume training and, subject to each step on government’s open of summer plan being achieved, progress towards contact fixtures and an exciting season of rugby for 2021.
While we are all incredibly excited about getting back out on the pitch, we are also conscious of the need to build-up gradually after a long layoff. The focus for all activity over the coming weeks will be on player retention and player safety.
Effective June 17th, 2021, all senior rugby, men and woman will be returning to the Druids every Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30pm. All rugby activities will follow our Return to Play Plan that was approved by Rugby Alberta. The Druids are attempting to offer something for everyone, whether it be touch or contact rugby.
The first few weeks training sessions will focus on skills & fitness at a low to medium intensity for roughly 60 minutes to gradually ease back into the sport after being away from the game for the past 18 months. Early July we will return to contact at medium to high intensity for 60-75 minutes, in preparation for a few 10 aside contact rugby tournaments. In August, we see a return to a competition format for contact rugby.
All conditions are based on AHS restrictions and progression through stages. Game on Rules will be applied and no defaults unless a team fails to show up for a scheduled fixture.
Registration is now live for all memberships. All players must be registered through sportlomo to participate in any rugby activity. Your membership is valid until April 30, 2022.
